I’ve been trying for a while to come up with the perfect spirulina smoothie recipe and I’ve finally discovered that the secret ingredient to making this drink zing is fresh lime juice!
Holistic cooking tip – adding a squeeze of lemon or lime an easy way to inject more vitamin C into any recipe. I’ve used kiwi fruit in this recipe because it goes well with the spirulina but I also love this fruit in drinks because hey are high in vitamin K which not many fruits are.
I’ve used passion fruit-flavoured yoghurt (natural of course) in my smoothie which seemed to compliment the other flavours well but if you can’t get passionfruit then just plain will work just fine.
Ingredients
1 frozen banana, peeled
3 tablespoons of passionfruit-flavoured natural coconut yoghurt (or plain)
1 lime wedge, squeezed in
1 ripe golden kiwi fruit (skin sliced off)
About 1/3 a cup of milk of your choice (I’ve used almond)
1/2 cup of freshly squeezed orange juice (not long-life juice)
1/2 teaspoon of spirulina powder

Method
- Blitz all of the ingredients together in a blender for 30 seconds to 1 minute, pour and enjoy!
*The best way to deal with a frozen banana is to slice it up into about 2cm chunks and then remove the skin with a knife.
